The Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year awards are all but decided, but there are a couple of spots on the All-Ivy First Team still up for grabs. With two weekends left in the regular season, here’s a rundown of the guys who should be on the First Team already and the candidates for the remaining spots.
The numbers: 8-15 overall, 4-6 Ivy, 286th RPI, 305th Sagarin, 297th Pomeroy
The recent results: won 79-66 at Harvard (2/17), lost 58-46 at Dartmouth (2/18)
The upcoming schedule: at Columbia (2/24), at Cornell (2/25)
Scout.com confirms that guard Niko Scott has re-committed to Columbia. The Queens native originally committed to Joe Jones’s program out of Christ the King High School last season, but failed to gain admission. He re-opened his recruitment and enrolled at Brewster Academy in New Hampshire for a postgraduate year. The 6-2 shooting guard chose Columbia over a scholarship offer from Richmond of the Atlantic 10.
The shockwaves of Columbia’s last-second win over Penn have died down now, giving us a chance to survey the post-upset landscape. And at least from Penn’s perspective, things are actually pretty much the same as before. For Columbia, however, it’s an entirely different story.
Game of the Week: Yale at Cornell – Friday, February 24
With Harvard completely demoralized after five straight losses, there’s no true marquee game this week. Since Yale-Cornell is the only matchup between upper division teams, that’s as good as it gets this weekend. The earlier meeting in New Haven was competitive, with Yale rallying in the second half and pulling away in the final minutes to end Cornell’s four-game winning streak.
