Is Frank Sullivan in trouble at Harvard?

When ivybasketball.com first came on the scene back in 2000-01, we listed Frank Sullivan under “Coaches on the Hot Seat” in our inaugural season preview. This was based on statements by some trusted sources. However, it turned out they were just speculating idly based on some circumstantial information and a weak one-man recruiting class that fall. Coming off its fifth-straight upper division finish, several people around the Harvard program made it known that this was not the case.

Penn wins Ivy League title, NCAA Tournament bid

Penn’s 57-55 victory at Yale combined with Brown’s 61-46 upset of Princeton gave the Quakers the 2005-06 Ivy League title and the accompanying automatic bid. If Yale and Cornell win tonight and Penn wins the regular season finale at Jadwin on Tuesday, there would be three-way tie for second place with Cornell, Princeton, and Yale all at 8-6. The championship is Penn’s second consecutive and the school’s sixth in the last eight seasons. Fran Dunphy now has 10 Ivy titles and nine NCAA Tournament appearances in 17 seasons at the helm of the program.

Gamecenter: Penn 57, Yale 55

Key sequence: After leading by double figures almost the entire game and by as much as 18 in the second half, Penn went cold in the final seven minutes. Yale was able to trim a double-digit deficit down to two with just over a minute remaining, and the Bulldogs had the ball in the final minute with a chance to tie or take the lead, but Ibby Jaaber came up with a steal. At the other end, Brian Grandieri missed a layup with the shot clock running down, but Mark Zoller collected the offensive rebound and Yale was forced to foul Steve Danley. Danley coolly knocked down both free throws to give Penn a 57-53 lead with just 11 seconds left.
