Familiar script for Yale

If it weren’t for the fact this was the fourth season in a row Yale has done this, last night’s score at Jadwin Gym would have been shocking. Now the weight of being the league’s best hope to unseat Penn reverts to Harvard. But with the Crimson just a two-point favorite tonight at Cornell, the title chase could be short-lived once again this season.

Oh Yale…
At least for one night, all was right in the world of Princeton basketball. With Scott Greenman enjoying a career night, the Tigers played great at both ends of the floor and even won the rebounding war. This, of course, was not how the game was supposed to go. Either James Jones and his staff really dropped the ball in terms of not attacking the much smaller Tigers inside, or the Yale players failed miserably at executing the game plan. Now tonight’s Yale-Penn showdown has lost a huge amount of its luster and the Bulldogs pretty much need to run the table from here on out to have any chance in the league. Meanwhile, Princeton is 2-1 in the league and tied with Harvard in the loss column.

Crimson win sets up big game in Ithaca
This time it wasn’t the beginning of the second half that killed Columbia — it was a poor stretch of play midway through the second stanza. The Lions went cold, allowing Harvard to slowly pull away for the win. Now 4-1 Harvard takes on 3-2 Cornell in Ithaca. The Big Red has fared well at home against the Crimson in recent years, but this probably the best Harvard team it has faced in some time. Cornell got over .500 in Ivy play for the first time this season, and with a win tonight, the Big Red can pull itself back into the fringes of title contention. If Steve Donahue’s club hadn’t left Dragutin Kravic wide open…

Jadwin debut
I have a confession to make. I’m not quite sure how this happened, but I’ve never been to Jadwin Gym. I’ve had plans to be in attendance on numerous occasions, but from ticket unavailability, to illness, to things I can’t remember, circumstances have conspired to keep me out of Buckminster Fuller’s favorite sporting venue. That’s all changing tonight, when my wife and I will be taking in the Brown-Princeton contest. We’re in luck, as tonight is everyone’s favorite Princeton basketball promotion: Mascot Night. So if you’re at Jadwin tonight, stop by and say hello. I’ll be the tall-ish guy feverishly trying to keep tabs on all four Ivy games.
