Keys to the Game
Key sequence Brown was hanging tough, trailing by nine with under 11 minutes to play, but Weyinmi Efejuku threw a long alley-oop pass to Jamine Peterson, who slbammed it home to give Providence a double-digit lead. Peterson then blocked a shot and Efejuku added a pair of free throws. The Bears came up with a steal and got a fastbreak layup from Damon Huffman, but Jeff Xavier responded in kind just seconds later, drawing a foul and converting the three-point play. The two teams traded missed jumpers, but the Friars grabbed their own miss and capitalized on the second chance with a Brian McKenzie three-pointer that finished off a 10-2 run and opened up a 60-43 lead with 8:49 to play.
Key sign it was over Two Mark McAndrew free throws with 3:21 remaining in the game proved to be the final Brown points of the night. Peterson threw down another dunk at the 1:42 mark to make it 67-51, and added a conventional three-point play with 64 seconds left to finish off the scoring.
Key performance McKenzie tied for the team scoring lead with 13 points for the Friars, and also added seven rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal in 31 minutes.
Key statistic Providence had 10 more field goals than Brown, largely on the strength of its 50.0-percent shooting, compared to 33.3 percent for the Bears. The Friars were 21 of 37 (56.8 percent) inside the three-point arc, while the visitors were just 13 of 34 (38.2 percent) on two-point attempts.
Notes

– McAndrew was the only double-digit scorer for Brown with 15 points, albeit on 5-for-15 shooting.

– Four Providence players scored 11 or more points, with Peterson and Randall Hanke coming off the bench to join McKenzie with 13 points.

– The Bears started the game 4 of 11 (36.4 percent) from three, but missed all six attempts from long range after halftime to finish the game at 23.5 percent from the outside .

– Brown did a decent job on the defensive glass, limiting Providence to 31.0-percent offensive rebounding, but the Friars still enjoyed a 14-8 advantage in second-chance points.

– Despite relatively even turnover counts of 15 for the Bears and 14 for the Friars, Brown was outscored 14-7 in points off turnovers.

– Craig Robinson picked up his fourth technical foul of the season .

– After a break for finals, Brown will be back in action on Saturday, December 22, with a rare morning game at 11:00 am ET at Hartford.
