Keys to the Game
Key sequence After sending the game into overtime with two Scott Friske free throws with 1:14 to play in regulation, Brown came out and scored the first six points of the extra session. Friske hit one of two free throws, then after a missed three pointer by DeMario Anderson, Matt Mullery blocked a layup attempt. At the other end of the floor, Mark McAndrew was fouled, and the senior converted both free throws for a three-point advantage for the Bears. Mullery again blocked a shot inside, and though Brown couldn’t score on its subsequent possession, Quinnipiac turned it back over. When Damon Huffman’s three-pointer fell through the net, the Bears led 80-74 with 2:25 remaining in overtime.
Key sign it was over Karl Anderson’s lay-in made it a one-possession game at 82-79 with 55 seconds to play, but McAndrew was perfect on two free throw attempts. Karl Anderson then drew a foul, missed both shots, grabbed his own miss on the second, and missed a layup, with the rebound going to the Bears. Friske could get only one of two at the line, but when Bryan Geffen’s three-point attempt wouldn’t drop, McAndrew secured the rebound, was fouled, and iced the game with a free throw with just nine seconds remaining to put Brown up 86-79.
Key performance Huffman finished with 18 points on 7-for-12 shooting and hit 4 of 7 from deep. The senior guard also handed out four assists to go with three rebounds and three steals, while playing 44 of the 45 minutes.
Key statistic The Bears once again dominated the free throw line, attempting 30 free throws to just 18 for the Bobcats, and outscoring their hosts 22-11 at the stripe.
