Harvard added PF Wright to stellar 2008 class

Scout.com’s Dave Telep reports Keith Wright of Norfolk, Virginia, is the latest high schooler to give Tommy Amaker a verbal commitment. Wright was recruited by almost every program in the Ivy League, taking official visits to Harvard and Princeton before deciding on the Crimson. The 6-7, 245-pound big man averaged 13.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game last season as a junior at Norfolk Collegiate High School. Wright becomes the six — and possibly final — member of Amaker’s first recruiting class, joining point guard Oliver McNally, wing Max Kenyi, forward Peter Boehm, power forward Andrew Van Nest, and center Frank Ben-Eze.

Slant: Wright’s commitment had been rumored for a while, and from the sound of Telep’s article, this could be the final piece of Harvard’s 2008 class. A lot can happen between now and next September, but assuming all six of the recruits end up on campus, this has to be the school’s best recruiting class of the Academic Index Era. Wright is big and physical, and the scouting report on him touts his ability to finish at the basket. He’ll bring some much-needed bulk to a Crimson frontcourt that currently is more about finesse than physicality. Athleticism is a bit of a question mark, but Wright looks like a solid addition to Amaker’s initial class.
