Keys to the Game |
Key sequence |
Yale was clinging to a two-point lead in a back-and-forth game when Ross Morin put the Bulldogs up four. After the two teams traded several scoreless possessions, Caleb Holmes’s outlet pass found Travis Pinick for a fastbreak layup. Pinick returned the favor, feeding Caleb Holmes for a layup in the next possession to make it 53-45. Following a Pinick free throw, Eric Flato came up with a steal and created a layup for Pinick to give the Bulldogs a double-digit lead. Two Caleb Holmes free throws capped off an 11-0 run that gave Yale a 58-45 advantage.

Key sign it was over |
Corey Hassan’s three-pointer brought Sacred Heart to within seven with 1:13 left, but Drew Shubik fouled Alex Zampier, who drained both free throws. Shubik couldn’t find the range on a three, and Zampier hit one of two at the line. Following a Pioneer turnover, Caleb Holmes missed his first free throw, but hit the second. Sacred Heart’s Ryon Howard couldn’t finish inside, and this time Caleb Holmes was perfect on two free throws to put things out of reach with a 13-point margin and just 37 ticks left.

Key statistic |
