Brown picks up a pair of commitments

Craig Robinson’s 2008 recruiting class now has two members after Marques Coleman of Cactus High School in Arizona and Noel Hollingsworth of Judge Memorial High School in Salt Lake City both announced their intentions to attend Brown. Coleman’s choices came down to Brown, Yale, and Division I returnee Seattle University. Hollingsworth visited Harvard back in June, and as of then was considering a wide variety of Ivy and Patriot League options.

Slant: Heading into 2007-08 without a strong option at the point, Robinson clearly made the position a recruiting priority. At 6-3, Coleman has excellent size for a point guard and Scout.com’s Greg Hicks calls him “one of the top prospects in the 2008 Arizona class,” adding that Coleman “has very good vision” and is “a terrific passer. According to Hicks, the only knock on Coleman is that “[h]is outside shot does need work.”

With 6-11 freshman Evan Schmidt opting not to play this season and his college career in doubt, Hollingsworth helps fill the need for post players. The 6-9 big man averaged 20.8 points and 12.5 rebounds per game as a junior, though at 215 pounds he’ll need to add bulk for the college game. Robinson almost certainly won’t bring in a huge class again this year, but so far the quality appears to be good.
