Keys to the Game
Key sequence The Big Red used a late first-half run to open up a decent lead. After Dan Biber’s tip-in brough Dartmouth to within 27-20 with 3:21 left in the first half, Louis Dale responded with a three-pointer at the other end to push the margin back to double digits. Ryan Wittman came up with a steal that led to two Dale free throws. Dale then fed Andrew Naeve for a jumper, and then a Naeve layup completed a quick 9-0 Cornell run that put the Big Green in a 36-20 hole with 52 ticks left in the first half. Dartmouth wouldn’t get back within single digits the rest of the way.
Key sign it was over Dartmouth pulled to within 12 on a conventional three-point play by Alex Barnett with 12 minutes left in the contest. The Big Green had two chances to further cut into its deficit, but couldn’t capitalize, and Wittman eventually drilled a three. DeVon Mosley couldn’t reciprocate, and Naeve was fouled and converted both free throws to make it a 17-point game. Biber stuck a jumper, but Alex Tyler answered with a pair of free throws. Dartmouth then had three looks from three-point range, but couldn’t get any of them to drop, and Wittman eventually found Graham Dow for a layup that made it 60-41 with 7:24 remaining.
Key performance Dale didn’t start because of Senior Night, but had a stellar evening with 16 points on 5-for-8 shooting — adding 12 rebounds, four assists, and only one turnover in 28 minutes.
Key statistic The Big Red owned a massive 30-10 edge in the paint against a Big Green squad that relies heavily on its inside scoring. Dartmouth finished just 16 of 38 (41.2 percent) on two-point attempts — compared to 20 of 37 (54.1 percent) inside the arc for Cornell.
Notes

– Biber (14 points) and Mosley (10 points) were the only Dartmouth players in double figures, as leading scorers Barnett and Leon Pattman combined to shoot just 4 of 17 (23.5 percent) from the field.

– In his final collegiate appearance, Naeve was the game’s high scorer with 21 points on 7-for-12 shooting from the field and a perfect 7 of 7 at the line.

– Cornell attempted 26 free throws, to just 13 for Dartmouth, with the Big Red outscoring its guests 21-12 from the line.

– Cornell enjoyed glass supremacy, grabbing 9 of 25 (36.0 percent) of rebounds at its offensive end and limiting Dartmouth to just 14.3 percent of rebounds at its offensive end.

– The Big Green had only four assists on its 19 field goals.

– Dartmouth finishes the season alone in seventh place at 4-10 in the league, while Cornell ends up in third place at 9-5 — the most Ivy wins for the program under Steve Donahue.
