Craig Robinson’s first recruiting class at Brown is taking on a distinct Chicago flavor with ChicagoHoops.com reporting the decision of Windy City native Jelani Floyd to join the Bears next season. Floyd currently is enrolled at Phillips Academy in Andover, MA, for a postgrad year, where he is averaging around 19 points and 11 rebounds per game for an 11-5 Phillips Andover team. The 6-7 combo forward is the eighth recruit to announce a commitment to Brown this year.
Slant: Floyd had some early feelers from some bigger names, including Providence, Pepperdine, and received interest during the season from Patriot League schools American and Bucknell, but ultimately felt most comfortable with Brown and Robinson. According to Phillips Andover head coach Leon Modeste, Floyd is a long, athletic, versatile player who defends well and can play either forward position. He isn’t a great three-point shooter at this point, but is capable of drifting out to the arc and knocking down a three. Modeste says Floyd is excited to be a part of Robinson’s big recruiting class and knows a number of his future Brown classmates from back in Chicago.
