Keys to the Game
Key sequence Brian Cusworth had brought Harvard to within 13 at 60-47 with under 15 minute left, when the Friars proceeded to score on their next six possessions — while Harvard only had a pair of turnovers and three missed jumpers to show for itself during the 13-0 Providence run. When the smoke cleared, the Crimson found itself staring at a 73-47 deficit with less than 12 minutes remaining.
Key sign it was over Harvard scored on nine of 10 possession to climb back within seven points on Jeremy Lin’s three-pointer at the 1:40 mark. Herbert Hill hit a quick layup at the other end before Drew Housman answered with a jumper to keep the Crimson within seven. Housman came up with a steal, but Geoff McDermott got away with contact on what went as a block of a Cusworth missed jumper, and Jonathan Kale scored on a two-on-none fastbreak to push the margin back to nine. After the two teams traded a pair of free throws, James Lambert and Brad Unger each got looks from outside the arc, but neither one could hit, and two more Curry free throws with nine seconds left removed any doubt about the outcome.
Key performance Weyinmi Efejuku was the game’s top scorer with 26 points on 9-for-13 shooting — including 4 of 6 from deep. Efejuku got Providence rolling in the first half with 17 of his points coming before halftime.
Key statistic The Friars had their way with the Crimson on the glass, rebounding at 46.4 percent offensively and holding Harvard to 22.6-percent offensive rebounding. This was manifested in a 17-9 edge for Providence in second-chance points.
