Keys to the Game |
Key sequence |
Harvard’s Drew Housman hit a three-pointer with 13:47 left to pull the Crimson to within 48-35. However, after the basket, senior forward Matt Stehle was assessed a technical foul for throwing the basketball at a Brown player, hitting him in the stomach. Damon Huffman converted both technical free throws, then Chris Skrelja hit a jumper for a four-point possession. A frustrated Stehle missed a three-point attempt, then Skrelja showed him how it was done at the other end to cap off a 7-0 run in 53 seconds for the Bears that left them with a 20-point lead and 11:49 left. |
Key sign it was over |
After Harvard used a late 9-2 run to cut its deficit to 12 with just over two minutes left, Mike Beal fouled Marcus Becker, who hit one of two at the line. At the other end, Jim Goffredo couldn’t knock down a three-pointer that would have trimmed Brown’s lead to 10. Becker went to the line again, and this time he knocked down a pair of free throws to put the Bears up 15 with 95 seconds on the clock. When Stehle turned it over on the subsequent possession, Brown was all but guaranteed its fourth Ivy win of the season. |
Key performance |
Brown’s Chris Skrelja. The freshman came off the bench early on after Scott Friske picked up his second foul just 83 seconds into the game. This turned out to be quite fortuitous for Glen Miller, as Skrelja exploded for a career-high 19 points — exactly half his total for the entire season entering the game. He also registered a career-best 10 rebounds. |
Key statistic |
Brown’s 43-26 edge in points in the paint. Against the taller, more talented Crimson frontcourt, it was the Bears who dominated inside. Miller’s offense was firing on all cylinders, as his guys repeatedly found themselves wide open at the hoop after nice drives and crisp feeds. |

Notes |
– |
Jim Goffredo couldn’t follow up his 30-point, 8-for-10 performance from three-point range in Providence last time these teams got together, going 2 of 7 from the arc. The junior still finished with 18 points. |

– |
Keenan Jeppesen had another strong offensive game with 17 points and some nice drives to the hoop. He could have had his third-straight scoring effort of 20 or more points, were it not for a 5-for-11 performance from the line. |
|
– |
Stehle had a rough night. Though he finished with 16 points, the All-Ivy senior shot just 6 of 15 and had four turnovers against only two assists. |
