Penn’s Osmundson cleared for Princeton game

Eric Osmundson practiced on Monday and is expected to play in Tuesday’s showdown with Princeton. The Daily Pennsylvanian reports that the senior point guard was diagnosed with a separated shoulder resulting from an incident on Saturday night, late in the win over Harvard. But Osmundson was cleared by team doctors and was back at practice on Monday, where the Penn captain indicated to the DP’s Zachary Levine that he will be able to play against the Tigers.

Slant: If Osmundson is at or near 100 percent that would be a major relief for Penn. Princeton is shooting the three-pointer very well, and while Osmundson’s potential replacement, Brian Grandieri, is a good on-ball defender, he’s not as reliable as Osmundson in terms of marking opponents on the perimeter. Osmundson’s presence also allows Fran Dunphy to play Ibby Jaaber off the ball, where he tends to be most effective. Still, Osmundson’s shooting has run hot and cold this season, so something like this easily could affect his shot.
