The Yale Daily News reports that Yale power forward Sam Kaplan will undergo an MRI Monday on what are believed to be torn ligaments in his wrist. The injury occurred in practice last week and Kaplan did not play in either game this weekend. The YDN story says Kaplan could return to the starting lineup for this weekend’s Dartmouth-Harvard road trip. The junior had been enjoying a breakout season, averaging 11.4 points in just 23.8 minutes per game and shooting 57.1 percent from the floor.
Slant: This type of injury can make it tough on a big man, as gripping the ball can become a problem. Still in search of its first road win of the Ivy season, Yale certainly doesn’t need to head north shorthanded — and without one of its best players. If Kaplan isn’t able to go, it’s an opportunity for more freshman Ross Morin to see more minutes. Morin started in Kaplan’s place this weekend. He didn’t do much on Friday against Columbia (scoreless with three rebounds in 18 minutes), but had a career game on Saturday (15 points in 24 minutes) and was instrumental in the win over Cornell.
