No single, simple explanation for Princeton’s problems

The Tigers lost their seventh straight non-league game last night at Davidson, but compared to some of the other losses this season, this one wasn’t so bad. Then again, this is Princeton we’re talking about. Davidson is no slouch — especially at home — but we’re not supposed to be saying “That wasn’t so bad…” after Tiger losses to non-major conference opponents.

January 29 Power Rankings

With the non-league regular season schedule now over, all eight teams turn their undivided attention to Ivy play. If last week’s rankings were thrown into upheaval by upsets that weekend, this week’s rankings reflect a return to form, with a distinct divide between upper and lower division teams.

Gamecenter: Princeton 50, Davidson 65

Key sequence: With Princeton fighting to stay in the game down 13, Justin Conway got to the basket, but had his shot blocked. Luke Owings came up with a steal, but was long with a three-point attempt. At the other end Davidson missed a three, tried two unsuccessful tip-ins, and got the ball back out of bounds. The Tigers forced a five-second violation, and Conway drove in for another attempt at point-blank range, but against it was rejected. At the other end, Davidson nailed a wide-open three-pointer to push the margin to 16 points.
