The Charlotte Observer reports former Harvard commitment Frank Ben-Eze has signed a national Letter of Intent to attend Davidson. The highly regarded 6-10 big man created a major stir when he committed to Harvard back in October. However, Ben-Eze found himself at the center of a controversy over Harvard’s admissions standards in February, and reopened his recruitment on March 11 after Harvard reportedly raised the SAT score he would need to gain admission.
Slant: Coming off a torn ACL suffered in late February and a disappointing senior campaign, it will be interesting to see if Ben-Eze justifies the attention he received this past year. While he was highlighted as the centerpiece of Tommy Amaker’s first recruiting class, there are a number of incoming Crimson recruits who were expected to have a bigger initial impact. With Harvard avoiding a run-in with the rest of the league on the Academic Index and the recruit ending up at a highly respected academic institution and a basketball program coming off an Elite Eight appearance, this is as close to a happy ending as was possible.
