1. Cornell (14-5, 6-0 Ivy) 1 The Big Red looks unstoppable right now, taking the best shots of fired-up Princeton and Penn teams and still winning comfortably in the end. It’s still too early to hand it the Ivy crown, but the sweep of the Ps was more than just a symbolic achievement, giving Cornell a two-game lead on the field.
2. Brown (12-8, 4-2 Ivy) 2 It was a very good week for Craig Robinson, as his brother-in-law picked up some serious momentum and his team scored a couple of impressive blowouts in front of home crowds. With Ivy opponents appearing to key on Damon Huffman, Mark McAndrew has stepped up with big performances.
3. Columbia (10-12, 3-3 Ivy) 3 Getting its point guard back was great news for Columbia, which successfully defending its home court against Penn and Princeton. The Lions had to be even more pleased with the way they shot the three-pointer (19 of 33 for 57.6 percent) after struggling in that department so much outside the league.
4. Yale (9-11, 3-3 Ivy) 6 This weekend Lee Amphitheater looked much more like the fortress it had been the past six seasons, as Yale righted its ship with two solid wins at home. The bad news for the Bulldogs is that they’re three games out of first place and will have to go on the road for six of their final eight games.
5. Princeton (5-14, 2-2 Ivy) 4 After raining down three-pointers on Cornell and giving the Big Red a scare on Friday night, the Tigers couldn’t recreate their success from long range at Columbia. Tuesday’s game at Penn will give Princeton a chance to win on the road for the first time after dropping its first 11 away contests.
6. Penn (7-14, 2-2 Ivy) 5 It’s hard to know how much Penn missed Tyler Bernardini this past weekend, as he wasn’t going to shut down Columbia’s outside shooters or contain Cornell’s guards. Despite the loss in Ithaca, the extremely impressive play of Andreas Schreiber and Harrison Gaines is a major cause for optimism.
7. Harvard (6-16, 1-5 Ivy) 8 Big halftime deficits doomed the Crimson to defeat on both nights this weekend, as the road record this season slipped to an unsightly 0-13. Tommy Amaker will be very glad to see his team return to the friendly confines of Lavietes Pavilion as it looks to put the brakes on a five-game skid.
8. Dartmouth (8-12, 1-5 Ivy) 7 Terry Dunn certainly has his work cut out in terms of keeping up his team’s spirits after a weekend that was nothing short of a total disaster for Dartmouth. Friday night saw a lifeless Big Green squad get dominated at Brown, then Saturday brought an absolute rout at the hands of Yale at The Church.
