SF Weaver joins Brown’s 2008 recruiting class

The Hampton Roads Daily Press reports</strong> Brown has picked up another commitment, as Bill Weaver has opted to play for the Bears next season. The Hampton, VA, native chose Brown over Furman, Lehigh, NJIT, and VMI, citing the school’s stellar academics as the key factor in his decision. The 6-4 Weaver is a senior at Bethel High School, where he is averaging 12.2 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. He is the fourth member of Craig Robinson’s 2008 recruiting class to announce publicly his commitment.

Slant: Weaver gives Robinson a wing player in a class that previously included a point guard and two forwards. His rebounding numbers indicate some interior play at the high school level, so the all-too-common post-to-perimeter transition could be a complication at the collegiate level. A scouting report from the fall labels him a slasher offensively with good defensive skills, who needs to improve his shooting and ballhandling.
