Key sequence Eric Flato gave Yale a 67-64 lead on a three-pointer with 1:33 remaining in the contest, but Michael Turner answered with a three of his own at the other end to equalize. Caleb Holmes attempted another three-pointer for the Bulldogs, but it was off the mark, and Joe Zeglinski’s jumper with 27 seconds left put the Hawks on top. Yale had a chance to tie or take the lead, but Alex Zampier was whistled for traveling with 9.7 seconds left.
Key sign it was over The Bulldogs fouled Jaret Von Rosenberg, who calmly drained both free throws to make it a four-point game with under 10 seconds left. Caleb Holmes hit an off-balance three-pointer to cut Yale’s deficit to just one with 2.1 seconds remaining, and Von Rosenberg was fouled again. The Hawks’ point guard again was perfect at the line, and a prayer at the buzzer went unanswered as Hartford escaped with the win.
Key performance Zeglinski led all scorers with 22 points on 7-for-10 shoootings, and also recorded five assists and four rebounds in 35 minutes.
Key statistic Yale scored more points from the field, but Hartford had an edge at the line. The Hawks attempted 24 free throws to the Bulldogs’ 14 and outscored them 19-11 on free throws.
Notes

– Flato’s 17 points led the way for Yale, while Caleb Holmes (14 points), Travis Pinick (13 points), and Ross Morin (10 points) joined him in double figures.

– Anthony Minor had 12 points, and Turner gave Hartford a third double-digit scorer with 11 points.

– The Bulldogs attempted 28 of their 62 field goals from outside the arc, knocking down 11 for 39.3-percent three-point shooting.

– Yale had its way on the boards, grabbing an impressive 45.0 percent at its offensive end and 78.6 percent at the defensive end, but only outscored Hartford 18-12 on second chances.
