Mosley leaves Dartmouth program

Tony Lane of the Valley News reveals that junior DeVon Mosley will not play basketball next season for Dartmouth. Citing “personal reasons,” Mosley confirmed his decision in an e-mail to Lane, with Big Green coach Terry Dunn saying he “needed to spend more time on academics.” The 6-1 combo guard was Dartmouth’s second-leading scorer last season at 11.6 points per game, and led the Big Green with 51 three-pointers.

Columbia assistant Engles takes top job at NJIT

The New Jersey Institute of Technology announced the hiring of Jim Engles as its new head coach. Engles had served on Joe Jones’s staff at Columbia since Jones’s hiring in 2003, after serving as an assistant at Rider in the six seasons prior to that. Engles had a major role in turning around the Columbia program that had gone 2-25 in the season before the arrival of the new staff. He’ll be looking to make a similar turnaround at NJIT, which set a Division I record by going 0-29 last season. Meanwhile, Jones will be looking for a new first assistant in his program.

Robinson departs Brown for Oregon State

Jeff Goodman of FOXSports.com reports Oregon State will hire Brown coach and Princeton alumnus Craig Robinson to take over its struggling men’s basketball program. Robinson just oversaw a successful season in which his Bears went 19-10 and finished second in the Ivy League at 11-3, en route to a big to the inaugural College Basketball Invitational. He was named the 2006-07 Basketball U. Ivy League Coach of the Year in his first season on College Hill.

LA 2007 grad Harris verbals to Brown

A February 7 article in the Los Angeles Wave claims Jean Harris, a 2007 graduate of Los Angeles High School, will play at Brown this fall. After missing the application deadline last year, Harris currently is enrolled at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, but according to the article he has not participated athletically and therefore should be eligible immediately at Brown. He averaged 23.9 points points per game as a senior in 2006-07 while playing int he small Southern League. Harris is Craig Robinson’s fourth public commitment for his 2008 recruiting class, with all four hailing from the West.
